DEPARTMENT OF CULTURE & BELONGING

To promote Culture, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as we transition to a new age, we strive to respect all cultures and identities. The United Foundation of Central Florida, Inc., established its Department of Culture & Belonging in 2020. This department is operated within the Global Engagement & Empowerment Center (GEEC).

The Office of Culture & Belonging leads and facilitates the development of organizational policies and protocols intended to create a more representative, equitable, and inclusive foundation where greater fairness, care, and belonging are better integrated into our learning and workplace practices.

CULTURE & DIVERSITY

The intricacies of our multiracial, multiethnic, and multicultural histories, cultures, and experiences are acknowledged. We acknowledge that historical and ongoing intersecting distinctions in race, ethnicity, gender identities, gender expressions, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, abilities, religion, citizenship status, and nationality have resulted in inequalities and privileges. We are committed to, and hold ourselves accountable for, policies, processes, and programs that appreciate these and other differences and create more fair, safe, and just learning, working, and living environments for FLU students, community members, and the families we serve.

EQUITY & INCLUSION

We are committed to, and hold ourselves accountable for, a representative UFCF in which the diversity of our FLU students, community members, and families practice generates respect and shared dignity in learning, working, living, and social environments in ways that provide opportunities for intellectual growth and professional development for careers, service to the public, and democratic participation in a diverse society, regardless of social, cultural and economic background and experience.

WE ARE AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

The United Foundation of Central Florida, Inc., is committed to equal employment and volunteer opportunities. We believe that no person should be excluded from agency services, employment, or volunteer participation on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, or for any other discriminatory reason.

This policy applies to all areas of employment and volunteer participation, including recruitment, hiring, training and development, promotion, transfer, termination, layoff, compensation, benefits, social and programs, and all other conditions and privileges of employment and community services in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws.

Diversity Category Two: UFCF Board of Directors Statement on Recent Events & Recommendations

The UFCF Board of Directors, in solidarity with those fighting against injustice, acknowledges the pain and suffering faced by Black Americans due to racism. The board emphasizes the importance of upholding principles such as equality, equity, faith, nonviolence, education, love, leadership, selflessness, and hope. They encourage members to educate themselves on the historical context of these issues and share that knowledge within their communities. They also provide a comprehensive list of books, articles, albums, films, and TV shows that can aid in understanding and addressing systemic racism.

Diversity Category Three: Principles We Live By

UFCF highlights several principles that guide their work: equality/equity, faith, nonviolence, education, love, leadership, selflessness, and hope. These principles are exemplified by Martin Luther King Jr., who fought for civil rights and equality during the 1950s and '60s. The organization encourages young people to treat others with kindness and fairness, believe in themselves and their goals, resolve conflicts peacefully, prioritize education, promote love and empathy, develop leadership skills, engage in selfless acts of service, and maintain hope even in the face of challenges.
