OUR APPROACH

We believe early intervention is the key to long-term community transformation. That’s why UFCF shifted its focus to preventive, holistic approaches that meet families where they are. We build sustainable solutions in collaboration with local partners, neighborhood organizations, and government agencies. Our programs are designed to promote educational attainment, reduce poverty and crime, improve access to workforce opportunities, and cultivate leadership development across generations.

To address community concerns, UFCF's Board of Directors researched effective programs that focus on neighborhood improvement. The Tangelo Park Program emerged as one of the most successful initiatives to date. Aligned with our mission to partner with local community organizations, the program utilizes early intervention and educational resources to positively transform families and individuals. Since its implementation in 1994, the Tangelo Park Program has generated tangible results in job creation, increased graduation rates from 20% to 100%, crime reduction, and enhanced family unity. Inspired by this proven success, we seek the community's support to establish the "Pine Hills Program."

Why Early Intervention?

Ninety percent of a child’s brain development occurs before the age of five. This critical window lays the foundation for lifelong learning and success. By investing in early education, we strive to ensure every child—regardless of zip code—has access to high-quality support and care.

Inspired by the proven success of the Tangelo Park Program, we have launched the "Pine Hills Program," rooted in the same values of education, safety, and community uplift. In communities like Pine Hills, we’re driving transformative results by integrating neighborhood revitalization, family empowerment, and strategic investment.

Our Network

UFCF operates through a robust network of over 20 partnerships with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, faith institutions, schools, and government entities. These collaborations have been essential to implementing our programming at scale while customizing our solutions to meet each community's unique needs.

From after-school enrichment and college readiness to food security, leadership development, and advocacy, UFCF remains committed to leaving every place we serve better than we found it.

We have sent 231 students to college, 10 to the military, and 2 to vocational/trade schools, while our Educational Scholarship Program has awarded $300,000 in scholarships. In addition to educational support, we have provided over $45,000 in alumni assistance to ensure the ongoing success of our students in their collegiate pursuits. By reducing crime in the Pine Hills Community by 46%, increasing the graduation rate at Maynard Evans High School from 42% to 97%, and improving access to equitable and high-paying jobs for our families, we are making a tangible impact. Furthermore, our Food Distribution Program has distributed over 7.3 million pounds of food, which is equivalent to 6.1 million meals. Through the combined efforts of our Board of Directors, after-school program students, volunteers, and partners, we have contributed over 170,000 hours of volunteerism, resulting in an economic impact of over $35.5 million to the communities we serve.
