Julien Serrano-O’Neil, a seasoned nonprofit executive and community advocate, has dedicated a decade to nonprofit management, philanthropy, and public service. Currently, he serves as the Chief Operating Officer (CRO) and First Vice President & Chief of Staff of the United Foundation of Central Florida, Inc. (UFCF). In this role, he spearheads external engagement, strategic partnerships, and philanthropic initiatives.
Notably, he led a restructuring that resulted in a remarkable 85% increase in the operational budget and a 45% rise in donor contributions. Julien’s leadership also secured a record-breaking philanthropic gift, a significant milestone for UFCF’s mission and growth. Julien’s contributions have had a profound impact on UFCF’s total economic impact, amounting to $46 million.
Through his efforts, UFCF provides essential resources such as food assistance, workforce development, and mentorship programs to underserved communities. In 2022, Julien, a member of Gen Z, made history as the youngest recipient of the Orlando Business Journals 40 Under 40 award at the astonishing age of 24.
This achievement is a testament to his unwavering dedication and passion for creating opportunities for others. Julien, Lead Director of the Division of Strategic Empowerment & Community Advancement (SECA), formerly known as the Global Engagement & Empowerment Center (GEEC), focuses on civic engagement, global partnerships, and social impact initiatives. His community development efforts led to $20 million in new funding for Children and Families Services through Empowerment (Opportunity) Zones.
Beyond his leadership at UFCF, Julien is a highly respected figure in the Central Florida community. He has played a pivotal role in raising over $500,000 in educational scholarships. This has ensured that numerous students have successfully graduated and transitioned to higher education, the workforce, or military service. Julien holds a CNP and ACNP (Advanced Certified Nonprofit Professional) designation. He’s pursuing dual Master’s degrees in Nonprofit Management and Public Administration at the University of Central Florida. He also has a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management. As a Morehouse College alumnus, he has a background in political science and public policy. He’s a proud Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. As an active member of his fraternity, Julien has served at various levels within the organization. Notably, he was appointed as the Director of Communications for the Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters.
Julien, a prominent figure in the nonprofit sector, has authored the “EmpowerED” series, a comprehensive guide that offers practical insights into nonprofit excellence and community impact. This invaluable resource equips nonprofit leaders with the tools they need to drive meaningful and sustainable change.
Julien’s dedication to service extends beyond his professional achievements. He actively participates in Morehouse College’s Greater Orlando Alumni Chapter (GOMAC) of the Morehouse College National Alumni Association (MCNAA), leading membership drives, scholarship fundraisers, and alumni engagement initiatives. As a committed advocate for higher education and alumni relations, he strengthens connections between Morehouse alumni and the broader community. His vision for leadership and community empowerment inspires transformative change across nonprofit, education, and philanthropic sectors.
